Post Decree Matters

Denver, Colorado, Divorce and Modification Lawyers

Modifying the Divorce Decree

Most people envision divorce as an ending — after the papers are signed, a divorce is final. But that is not necessarily so. At David Littman, PC, we assist clients in the modification of their divorce decrees. Whether this includes child support, spousal support, parental responsibilities and parenting time (formerly known as child custody) or visitation, or a contempt of court issue, we can help you.

What Can be Modified?

Clients come to us with many questions regarding modifications. We aim to address their concerns and explore options that will make their divorce decrees more applicable to their current lives.

  • Why would I need a post-divorce modification? A modification can be beneficial when an individual's circumstances have changed since a divorce was finalized. Some examples may include a change in income, change in living conditions, change in financial need of the child, or circumstances involving one spouse not honoring the conditions of the decree.
  • Which parts of the divorce decree can be modified? If a parent's circumstances have changed in regard to the life of the child, it is possible to modify parental responsibilities and parenting time (formerly known as child custody), visitation, and child support. Spousal support (alimony) can also be modified.

A post decree modification can have positive effects on the lives of those affected by a divorce. The goal of a modification is to update a divorce decree so that it accurately reflects the lives of those it represents. If a divorce was finalized five years ago, for example, many aspects of life may have changed. Through a modification, individuals can address these changes and update their decrees to work for their current lives.
